Grade 8 Social Studies Unit 4

Students will study the various diplomatic, economic, and ideological factors contributed to the United States decision to enter World War I. Students will investigate how involvement in the war significantly altered the lives of Americans, and how postwar America was characterized by economic prosperity, technological innovations, and changes in the workplace. 

Kindergarten Social Studies Unit 4

The past, present and future describe points in time and help us examine and understand events. In this unit, students will investigate specific words and phrases related to chronology and time and how they affect retelling of events of the past. Students will have the opportunity to review folktales, legends, oral histories, and music and the values, ideas and traditions they teach. 

Grade 2 Math Unit 4

In this unit students will learn about two-dimensional shapes, time and money. They will learn to describe and classify shapes as polygons or non-polygons. They will decompose and combine shapes to make other shapes and they analyze two-dimensional shapes to develop a foundation for understanding area, congruence, similarity, and fractions in later grades. Students will work to solve problems involving money up to $1 including counting mixed coins and making change. They will identify all coins and be able to arrange them in order from greatest to least value. Students will also be able to tell time using both analog and digital clocks to the nearest 5 minute and identify a.m. and p.m.

Grade 1 Social Studies Unit 3

Students will utilize maps to practice using various map tools, legends, and cardinal directions. They will be given the opportunity to practice these skills to describe location of items in the classroom as well as find places in the community or give directions to another student. In addition to this, students will learn about people and communities depending on and modifying their physical environment in order to meet basic needs and how humans interacting with their environment can have a positive or negative impact.

Grade 6 Math Unit 3

UPDATED FOR 2021-22: In this unit the students will learn to develop the concept of opposite numbers and absolute values, and that zero is its own opposite. They will use positive and negative numbers to represent real-world quantities and compare and order integers and rational numbers with and without number lines. The students will describe the relationship between rational numbers in real-world contexts through comparison and using understanding of absolute value. The students will learn to plot points in all four quadrants, find the distance between points, identify reflections across both axes, and create polygons.

Kindergarten Social Studies Unit 5

Maps and globes are representations of Earth’s surface that are used to locate and better understand places and regions. In this unit, students will gain an understanding of this and learn to locate places and regions on a map. Students will also learn to locate physical features and man-made structures on a map (e.g., school, grocery store, train station, hospital), using geographic vocabulary. In addition, students will learn about climate and seasonal weather changes and how people and communities are affected by these changes.

Grade 5 Social Studies Unit 5

The countries of the Western Hemisphere are diverse and the cultures of these countries are rich and varied. Due to their proximity to each other, the countries of the Western Hemisphere share some of the same concerns and issues. In this unit, students will study how countries of the Western Hemisphere have varied characteristics and contributions that distinguish them from other countries. Students will also investigate how countries in the Western Hemisphere face a variety of concerns and issues specific to the region.

Grade 6 Social Studies Unit 3

Complex societies and civilizations developed in the Eastern Hemisphere.Although these complex societies and civilizations have certain defining characteristics in common, each is also known for unique cultural achievements and contributions. In this unit, students will study early human communities in the Eastern Hemisphere and how they adapted to and modified the physical environment.

Grade 7 Math Unit 3

Students will learn to extend knowledge of proportional relationships and ratios related to scale drawings and other real-world situations. They will represent a relationship between two quantities by identifying a constant of proportionality or unit rate. They will also apply proportional relationships and ratios to percent problems.

Grade 2 Social Studies Unit 5

In this unit, students will investigate how communities face different challenges in meeting their needs and wants. Students will examine how the availability of resources to meet basic needs varies across urban, suburban, and rural communities and how people make decisions to buy, sell, and use money based on their needs, wants, and the availability of resources. Students will also continue their study of scarcity, goods, services, and be introduced to the idea of taxes. In addition, students will study how a community requires the interdependence of many people performing a variety of jobs and services to provide basic needs and wants.
