Sample Schedule for HS New Learning

At the high school level, teachers should consider creating a staggered schedule for both new instruction and assignments so that students are able to balance and plan their work over the five school days in each week. It is not expected or recommended that teachers provide direct instruction comparable to what they do in their traditional classroom setting.

The time allocations per subject area/course shown below include direct teaching (asynchronous and synchronous), completion of activities/assignments, feedback and assessment.

Secondary principals and teachers are encouraged to work together to coordinate learning schedules so as not to overlap time schedules or overwhelm students at any given time.

The sample schedule below is only meant to show how courses and instruction could be balanced across the week for each grade level. Only Regents courses were used in this example. Districts will need to expand this schedule to accommodate instruction in the full array of students’ courses.
